AUXILIARY PHOENIX TRIO
Known for his forward-thinking sound that at times defies definition, Auxiliary Phoenix draws from a vast pool of influences, most notably jazz and hip-hop, to create music that is truly unique. Hailing from Carlow, Ireland, his inimitable, sophisticated style has been shown love throughout the music world, from icons such as Thundercat (for a solo bass piece) and Mike Gao (for 'BRB' on Wriggle Vol 1) to grime visionary Murlo and RTÉ 2FM DJ Peter Curtin. He has also worked with the likes of celebrated innovators of their respective scenes, Divine Styler and Jon Anderson of Yes.
The Trio are a jazz-fusion hip-hop troupe led by James and rounded out by James McDermott on keys and Jake Quinn behind the drums. The group originally came together in pursuit of a novel means of transposing the jazz influenced hip-hop Strain concocted for his EP Camelopardalis into a live environment. From there, the trio’s sound has continued to evolve, captivating hip-hop heads and jazz aficionados alike.
