WEEKENDER MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL

Our inaugural event was a three-day music festival in Limerick, in conjunction with Limerick City of Culture 2014. The festival aim was to showcase some of the most exciting acts and labels from around the world.
The opening event saw one of the most prestigious club-nights in Europe transposed to the main room of Dolans Warehouse. The groundbreaking Manchester based Hoya:Hoya club night moved to Limerick for one night, hosting some of the most innovative DJs and producers the city has ever seen. Regular Hoya:Hoya DJs including Jonny Dub, Ninja Tune’s Illum Sphere, Jon K and MC Chunky were joined by rising stars of the electronic music scene Stray and Sam Binga. Visuals that night were supplied by Ireland’s most creative mapping and projections team, SlipDraft.
On the Saturday, we started the day at Mickey Martins with our Beats n’ Brunch event. Sounds that afternoon came courtesy of Teddy and food was courtesy of Jeff. Later on that day, the Limerick Theatre and Performance Hub (on Cecil Street) screened the Irish premier of the Los Angeles based Low End Theory documentary, entitled ‘Looking For The Perfect Beat’, a fly-on the wall perspective of artists such as Gaslamp Killer, Ras G and Flying Lotus in their studio environment at that moment in history.
On that Saturday night, London’s Eglo Records showed us why their artist roster is one of the most formidable in Europe. Headline act Fatima gave a supreme performance with her live band in Dolans Warehouse, showcasing tracks from her ‘Yellow Memories’ album. Support on the night came from Eglo label head Alexander Nut and producer and DJ Kutmah, whose set will live long in the memory of those who witnessed and danced to it.
Sunday was a more relaxed affair. We wound down a hectic weekend in the only way we knew how to – A Block Party! That evening our wrap-up party took place in Mickey Martin’s laneway. A violent storm unfortunately put paid to our plans to initially host the event outdoors and on a big system.
The storm also saw Fatima and her band’s flight being delayed! However, the weather couldn’t dampen our spirits as internationally renowned DJ and all-round music lover LeFtO from Brussels had us dancing through the night.
He was ably supported by some of the finest selectors in Ireland, including mynameisjOhn, Bap to the Future heads Lambo and Lols from Galway and Jonny Dub also got back on the decks to do another set.
